About halfway between the towns of Jalpan and Xilitla is a fantastic area of Pine Forest around the Arenita Campsite. Unfortunately the campsite wasn't open, but we still managed to walk through the forest and check out what was on offer.

As soon as the car was parked, there was stuff knocking around. A pristine White-breasted Nuthatch climbed the pines, ever out of camera shot. This Yellow-bellied Sapsucker stayed still longer, but wouldn't come into the light.

Frustratingly I caught a glimpse of a Woodcreeper sp. but couldn't confirm the I.D. (probably Spotted). Also on show was a splendid male Summer Tanager.
Deeper in the forest I stumbled upon large groups of Ruby-crowned Kinglets and then a small flock of Red Crossbill sharing the canopy with a Hermit Warbler, surely one of the prettiest of its family.
Again, the light destroyed any chance of a decent pic.
A Hermit Thrush and some Yellow-eyed Vireos were on the forest floor, and on the way out, I had a fine Mexican Jay making a right racket.
